On Friday, October 13; Brussels was introduced to its newest brewery at a private event at Nuetnigenough. No Science – Brasserie made its debut before a small crowd of beer writers and press and presented their first beer: Noisy Pale Ale. No Science started working at Greenbiz.brussels, a business incubator park located north of the Grand Place in the Laeken neighborhood. Maxime Dumay and Manuel Mengoni are the masterminds behind Brussels’ newest brewery. This brings the total of breweries in Brussels to 6, including: Cantillon, Brasserie de la Senne, Brussels Beer Project, En Stoemelings, and Beer Storming
Inspired by the Americanized Ale styles of England, No Science’s first beer is a hoppy Pale Ale/IPA. Their second beer will be a porter inspired black ale called Heavy Porter. The third beer will be a hoppy session beer.
Presented in both 33oml bottles and draft, Noisy Pale Ale is a 6% ABV, 60 IBU Pale Ale/IPA. Bittered with Challenger and Cascade hops, Mosaic hops are used for the aroma and flavoring. The mosaics give it a modern tropical ipa aroma although theheavier bitter notes seem a bit old fashioned in comparison to the current IPA trend which is away from bitterness and towards more intense utilization of designer aroma hops and tropical aromas. Overall, the first offering from No Science was a nicely brewed beer with good flavor. For a first effort, it shows promise for an interesting future.
