Prague – Day 3

Day 3 was definitely a lighter day for activity and my last in the Karlin neighborhood for this trip. I really did enjoy this neighborhood with its mix of restaurants and bars and convenient location. I would defiantly return to it on future trips.

I started the day by walking down to Kafe Karlin for coffee and a party. I ordered an Americano. And yes, the barista and other patron giggled at the American ordering an Americano. They didn’t have any pastries though. So I found another spot that looked promising and enjoyed my coffee on the walk. It really was a fantastic cup.

The Cappuccino

Muj Salek Kavy was another fine stop. It’s best described as a breakfast cafe with a nice selection of baked goods. Again, the coffee was exceptional. After a cappuccino and an individually prepared drip, I was caffeinated enough for the day. The omelette with Gruyere was excellent, and I enjoyed some quiet down time while getting some writing done.

A short subway ride later I was in the Prague 5 or Smichov neighborhood. The Angelo Hotel would be my base for the remainder of my Prague stay. I checked in and then settled into a beer while I waited for my coworkers to arrive. Once they landed, my job was to keep them up and entertained until a reasonable time.

I decided to take them to a few of my favorite spots in Prague 3. First stop: BeerGeek. It’s always fun to go to place that’s simultaneously familiar to things at home and unique to your location. We worked our way through several Czech craft beers while getting a chuckle out of the list of American beers on offer in bottle.

After BeerGeek, I took them to my favorite dining spot in Prague: Martin’s Bistro. Martin’s has a small, season menu that has a unique blend of some Asian flair blended in with Czech style the food is always outstanding. The quality far exceeds the price and the great neighborhood bistro atmosphere makes this a must stop if you’re in the Zizkov (Prague 3) area. I’d say it’s with the trek even if you’re not. It’s near a couple tram stops. Be sure to try their house cheese cake. The flavor changes seasonally but the base is always excellent.

Our final stop was a back at U Vodoucha. With a few more beers and a couple of traditional Czech liquors, the guys were done in and it was time to retire for the night. The rest of the week was going to be a busy one.
