Achel Blond 8

Achel Blond 8Achel has only been brewing beer since 2001, making them one of the newest breweries in the Trappist community.  They basically make 6 beers: a low, medium, and high alcohol versions of a brown and blond ale.

The Blond 8 is their mid-level light color ale.  This is the first time I’ve seen it on the west coast.  From what I understand, it’s not even that prevalent in Belgium.

Appearance: Lightly hazy blond, white head, great retention.

Aroma: Pepper, softly fruity, orange blossoms, floral notes, spicy, perfumy.

Taste: Candied orange, spicy, light peppery finish.

Overall Impression: The Blond 8 is a very balanced beer.  It’s also exceptionally subtle, soft, and quite elegant.  It’s bright, floral and quite lovely in its aroma.  If you can find it, I recommended picking up this one.  It’s a very pretty beer.

Availability: It may be hard to find this, but ask your local bottle shop if they carry beers from Shelton Brothers Importers.  If they carry other beers, they may be able to bring in the Achel.

8% ABV
