It’s the winter beer time of year! Hood River’s Pfriem Family Brewers produces several festive offerings, including this Belgian-Style Christmas Ale. Pfriem’s Belgian-style beers are probably some of the most authentic outside of Belgium. All of their cork and cage beers are bottle conditioned in a warm room that would look at home in any Belgian brewery.
Appearance: Reddish brown, tan head, good retention.
Aroma: Dried fruit, candied fruit, toffee, chocolate, citrus, light spiciness.
Taste: Toffee, figs, dates, milk chocolate.
Overall Impression: The yeast and carbonation character of this winter treat matches up to its name’s Belgian-Style. Pfriem has shown that it can consistently produce Belgian influenced beers authentically. Their Belgian-Style Christmas Ale is certainly one to add to your holiday shopping cart. Balanced with a touch of sweetness, its big alcohol will add to the festivities and keep you warm on a brisk winter night. If you’re a comparison to one of Belgium’s winter ales, Pfriem’s Belgian-Style Christmas Ale reminds me most of Brouwerij Huyghe’s Delirium Noel. Although, Pfriem’s example is a bit drier a touch less boozy.
Availability: Seasonally in the Pacific Northwest.
8% ABV

I have not had to many of their beers as they arrived inCanada as our dollar got bad but they are solid. I have liked everything I have tried so far. This one sounds great.
They’re making some of the best beer in Oregon.
That is high praise for sure!
