Dogfish Head Brewing’s spring/summer seasonal is an IPA brewed with apricots.  The apricots are added into the boil while the wort, in true Dogfish Head style, is continuously hopped.  The beer is then dry-hopped with Amarillo hops.  They call it their “fruit beer for hopheads.”  This is the next in my series of spring/summer beers with fruit.

Appearance: Bright copper/amber with a light tan head.  Great retention.

Aroma: Apricots, spicy hops, grassy hop notes

Taste: Light notes of caramel maltiness blend well with a touch of apricot and the spicy hop finish.

Overall Impression: All the elements of this beer are in balance.  It’s not sweet or overly bitter.  The malt/hops/fruit integrate into a really enjoyable beer.  The slightly higher alcohol might sneak up on you, but the heavier body and caramel should go nicely with some BBQ meats like chicken and pork

Availability: For a limited time in select Dogfish Head markets.

7% ABV

  1. While the Dogfish Head experiments occasionally go off the rails, this particular experiment is a real winner. Great stuff! You summed it up perfectly.

    Cheers!
